01/04/2010 Combating Evil in Villa Nueva

Gangs or the gospel for the kids in Guatemala? Villa Nueva is an overcrowded, impoverished suburb of Guatemala city, a dangerous red zone filled with crime, prostitution and drugs. Gangs from El Salvador and Honduras moved in, are terrorizing the citizens and worse yet, they prey on children, luring them into their illicit activities. Gang members stand outside of the elementary schools recruiting kids as they leave.

Hearts in Action has targeted Villa Nueva and opened an office in 2007 to coordinate the Festival of Values outreaches and teacher trainings. We have the Mayor's approval and thanks to the tireless efforts of the HIA teams from 2007 to the present day, over 35,000 children have been reached in over 50 schools in Villa Nueva.

The Festival of Values is HIA's elementary curriculum designed to strengthen kids moral values and faith. The "Festival" is experiencing success in the schools, more and more principals are asking the ministry to include their schools in our calendar. Children's lives are being changed, one value at a time.

Please pray, pray, pray for more workers to help present these valuable lessons and combat the spread of gang influences.

10/01/2009 HIA, a ministry on the GO!

More than 40 million Latinos reside in the USA. The Latin church is multiplying and gaining strength along with the rising population.

Latin pastors in the USA have been sensing a great need for ministry among their children. They are realizing the importance of children's spiritual development and that making spiritual champions requires an investment.

HIA-USA has received calls from across the country to train teachers and parents. During 2008 Mario and Suzanne Babarczy shared the "Passing the Torch" seminar in Massachusetts, New York, Kansas, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Connecticut.

As they continue to spread the vision for reaching children throughout the USA, God continues to open doors abroad. In October, 07 and July, 08 they traveled to Albania and Egypt for an intense training with over 100 children's workers. Now in 09 there are invitations to Colombia, Cuba, Nicaragua, Honduras and Turkey. If your church would be interested in hosting a Passing the Torch.

06/01/2009 Thanks For Helping Us To Build!

The construction of the USA mission base and our home at 7004 Africa Road in Ohio is almost finished. Friends, family, interns and even a work team from Litchfield, Illinois have all had a hand in the remodeling process. Chuck Fenton and his three sons along with Andy Tucker drove from Illinois and constructed the new entry. In just one day, they did so much! These men have helped many missionaries both on the field and stateside to build their homes. We are so thankful for the time, efforts and experience of every one who has generously contributed to this project. It’s good to be getting settled, finally unpacking and organizing the newest ministry base.
